So i'm supposed to be writing a book. I had set a goal to have the outline done by the end of this January. Well the outline is started. Doesn't look like its going to be done by the end of January. I have it started, which in itself is a major accomplishment considering what's been going on for me the past few months.
Mid crisis about a year ago I decided that it was time to begin doing the things I've always wanted to do. I have had been waiting to do these things someday, or when my ship came in. And I realizied if I waited much longer I might never get to do these things. And so I made a list. And I started checking things off the list.
Its amazing how if you visualize something it will come to you. Maybe not in the exact form you think. But its good enough to experience the flavor of the item and move on.
One of the items on my list was that I wanted to be wealthy enough to afford fresh flowers every day in my home. Now my life has not been going that way financially. But the strangest things have happened. While I was looking for a good job, along came an opportunity to work for a florist. And as one of the perks of the job, I got to bring home fresh flowers almost every day for about 8 months. Here I was able to check an item off my list that I never thought I would be able check off until I was wealthy.
I've always wanted to own my own pizza place. Crazy ideas that I have. Well I also took a part time job delivering pizza for about 6 months and got all the free pizza I wanted. And enough pizza expereince to know that I didn't want to own a pizza place.
So I'm thinking there are ways to accomplish the items on the list or a close proximity to the item- that lets you check the item off and go on to the next one.
So one of the items on my list is writing a book. This is a goal I've had for most of my life. And I've written enough to fill several books. As a matter of fact when I presented a seminar at an elearning conference a few years back I was approached about writing a book on elearning. Only that's not the book I want to write.
I believe that everyone has at least one good book in them. Seriously. I believe that we each have a story to tell and it is the story of our lives. Particulary gay and lesbian people alive today. And particularly women.
So much of our documented history is the story of men. Because men are the ones who were educated and did the writing. And so they told their story. The history of the people who did not write, many times is left for us to only imagine.
And so as women and as lesbians , I feel, we have an obligation to tell our stories. And so this book will be a compilation of women's stories and mine will be among them. I love to hear women talk about their lives and how they have become the women they are today. I know there are many people writing books out there today. The goal for me is not to make money, but to leave a contribution.
And so we begin with me writing my story, and possibly the story of some of the women I have met along the way.
I went to get my haircut the other day. It was late and the hair salon was busy. So when I finally sat in the chair, the hairstylist said -how do you want your hair cut? I said- I would like everything a little shorter. She said- do you want a razor used on the back? and i said- yes at the bottom.
I heard her start the razor and then before I knew it she had started at the bottom of my head in the back and razored it all the way to the top. For one brief fleeting moment I remember thinking- its too late to stop her. And with that i received probably the shortest haircut of my life!
The only other time it has been close to this short is when I cut my hair myself in college and did such a bad job- I had to practically shave it to get the hair even. Well I'm going to go out tomorrow before work and buy some dye to dye it because all my silvery hairs are now standing on end and reflecting the light like crazy.
What other crazy crazy things can I do?
"Eleanor Roosevelt understood that every one of us every day has choices to make about the kind of person we are and what we wish to become. You can decide to be someone who brings people together, or you can fall prey to those who wish to divide us. You can be someone who educates yourself, or you can believe that being negative is clever and being cynical is fashionable. You have a choice." Hillary Rodham Clinton

"To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all...that is genius...
A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from within, more than the luster of the firmament of bards and sages.
Yet he dismisses without notice his thought, because it is his. In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts; they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

What Is Reiki?
Reiki practitioners channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize. Unlike other healing therapies based on the premise of a human energy field, Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced.
Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.
The laying of hands is used in Reiki therapy also as in spiritual healing. There is a difference though. In spiritual healing, a person with a strong energy field places his or her hands above a particular part of the recipient's body in order to release energy into it. So, here the healer is the one who is sending out the energy. In Reiki, however, the healer places the hands above the recipient; however, it is the recipient that draws the energy as needed. Thus, in this case, the individual being healed takes an active part in the healing process as opposed to having a passive part in spiritual healing. The individual takes responsibility for his or her healing. The recipient identifies the needs and cater to them by drawing energy as needed.
Although there are a few positions in which the practitioner is in contact with the patient (such as cradling the head), most Reiki treatments do not involve actual touching. The practitioner holds his or her hands a few inches or farther away from the patient's body and manipulates the energy field from there.
I'm an energy person. I'm always aware of people's energy. You can tell alot about someone that way. Being aware of the energy around me and using my intution, I can sense if someone has good energy or bad energy. My gut tells me. This awareness has led me to amazing friendships with people and protected me from harmful ones.
Usually I'm pretty on about stuff like this. I used to think it was just coincidence, but as I'm learning to trust my instincts ,I'm finding I'm pretty intuitive. Usually if I think there is something going on, there is.
Its an energy. You know when it happens. You meet someone. And there is a spark. A click, a familiarity. It definately is an energy thing. And I'm very sure it can be a past life thing. I believe in them. I believe that we meet people in this life that we may have known in a past life. And that's what I believe this spark can be.
I've met people in this life that I've known before in a past life. There is this connection, this energy thing that happens.
so what to do with these people?
Well I believe in Karma. What goes around comes around. Maybe not now. Maybe not when I even know about it. But I'd like to think that the scene at the end of the movie "Ghosts" is actually true. That the bad guys, the ones who ridicule and make fun of others, because they have such small minds and mundane lives. The ones who can't look themselves in the mirror-who are so miserable inside they have to take it out on others-They get what's coming to them.
And so with that in mind. I choose to walk around people like that. Cause someday, somewhere it will all come back to them. I have faith that this will happen and that allows me to peacefully step away from them.
I'm thinking that there are people you meet who are dishonest or not truthful to you. What is the appropriate response? I believe that when you look at someone while they are talking, you can tell more about how they look that by what they are saying.
Maybe it is intuition. Maybe it is observation. What to do with these people when you encounter them. That is the question.
Karma or "Karm"(Sanskrit: कर्म from the root kri, "to do", meaning deed) or Kamma (Pali: meaning action, effect, destiny) is a term in several eastern religions that comprises the entire cycle of cause and effect. Karma is a sum of all that an individual has done and is currently doing. The effects of those deeds actively create present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life. In religions that incorporate reincarnation, karma extends through one's present life and all past and future lives as well.
